The Hour

The last hour of light.

The last ninety minutes of light on Court No. 01, October to April. The glare dies, the heat lets go, and the court turns a colour you only get once a day. In summer it becomes First Light at 06:00. Book it earlier in the week than feels necessary.

The Fifth · Thursdays 19:00

A seat held for whoever comes alone.

Every Thursday at seven we hold one seat at a four for someone who turns up without a group. No level required, no introduction to survive — Lena puts the four together, and she's good at it. Rackets at the desk. Say you're the fifth.

Membership

A stamp every time you play.

Nobody here is ranked. The book just says where you've played and when — which, after a year, turns out to be the record you actually want. Sixty dirhams a month: fifteen percent off court time, first call on the Hour, the pin at ten stamps, your name on a court at fifty.

The café

Coffee, karak, and a bench in the shade.

A coffee machine, a kettle for the karak, cold water, and a bench that looks at Court 01. Open whenever the courts are. The date cake is made down the road and comes in around four; it rarely lasts to the evening games.
